Big Medicine Head Returns to the Scene of the Crime
That's it, people: The Big Medicine Head 2012 Summer Love Off went down in the Santa Cruz area - a good time was had by all . Old friends and new came together in what evolved into a giant rock love bubble. Speical thanks to Greg and Doug and all the good people of Froggy's Pub in Soquel.
After a long and inexplicable absence from their hometown, Big Medicine Head returned on Saturday, August 4th. The proceeds from the event went to a good cause - a generous donation was raised for the Lucille Packard Foundation.
For the uninitiated, Froggy's can be considered the birthplace of Big Medicine Head's notoriety. The show starts at 9pm - with a $5 - $10 suggested donation at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at the Stanford Medical Center.
The short tally of seminal “wish I had been there” rock shows includes The Beatles at Shea Stadium, Bruce Springsteen at Winterland in 1978, and Jimi Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival. Add Big Medicine Head at Froggy's in 2012 to the list.
Robert Gemmell: "Springsteen has the Stone Pony. We've got Froggy's".
Special recognition must go to Amy, Alison and Kelly; Jared and Matt Williams; Rick Walker, Geoff Mitchell and Matt; Robert DeSalazar, Cindy and Gina; George Baldwin and Caroleena; Lulu, Greg, Doug, Steve and Peter at Sir Froggy's; Dave and Jan; Kip, and of course...Lea and Adrienne.
If anyone had photos, video, or anecdotes from the evening, send them to Bob.Cougar.Gemmellcamp@gmail.com.
See you next year! Watch for the new album The Handsome Years.
